A study conducted at the Manhiça Health Research Centre (CISM) identified a high prevalence of mutations associated with antiretroviral drug resistance among children living with HIV and their mothers, highlighting the importance of making drug resistance testing and treatment response monitoring more accessible, particularly in low-income settings.

The Director-General of the Manhiça Health Research Centre (CISM), Francisco Saúte, participated on 6 and 7 October 2026 in the General Assembly of the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP), held in Brussels, Belgium. The meeting brought together representatives of participating countries and institutions to discuss strategic issues related to clinical research and funding priorities.

During the discussion, participants proposed the creation or strengthening of a working group dedicated to fungal diseases, bringing together the Ministry of Health, researchers, clinicians, laboratories and partners. Such a platform would allow for the regular review of results, discussion of gaps and development of proposals for the National Directorate of Public Health.
