Nesta área encontram-se temáticas relevantes na pesquisa do Centro, como por exemplo a pesquisa em saúde ambiental, que ainda não se estabeleceram como disciplinas de pesquisa com capacidade humana e de infraestrutura. Para a implementação de estudos específicos nestas temáticas, o Centro continuará a prestar apoio e estabelecer parcerias com instituições já especializadas. Assim sendo, a priori não serão estabelecidos objectivos específicos para esta área.

His main area of research is malaria, one of the main health problems affecting mainly children and pregnant women, particularly in Africa and Mozambique in particular. He has been involved in several malaria-related research projects as co-principal investigator and investigator, among others, studies on the prevention and control of malaria including trials of intermittent preventive treatment in infants (IPTi), and clinical evaluation of the safety, efficacy and immunogenicity of the most advanced malaria vaccine candidate RTS,S/AS0.
