QUELIMANE KEY PLAYERS DISCUSS THEIR ROLE IN COMMUNITY HEALTH

The meeting organized by CISM - Manhiça Health Research Center and the Quelimane District Health, Women and Social Action Services (SDSMASQ), involving Multipurpose Health Agents, Midwives and Traditional Medicine Practitioners from all localities, served to emphasize the importance of influential people in referring patients and pregnant women to health units and reporting community deaths, within the scope of the Health Surveillance and Prevention of Infant Mortality study, called CHAMPS, implemented by CISM in the Quelimane district.

The District Chief Medical Officer and the Director of SDSMAS were present at the event, where they highlighted, in their speeches, the importance and commitment of key community actors to improving access to healthcare for all.

CISM Community Liaison Officer in Queliame, Yúry Macete, highlighted that one of the biggest current challenges during community awareness is the election period, as well as the unavailability of community members during the agricultural season, adding that "there is greater gain when the community involved actively participates in identifying seriously ill patients for immediate support and in reporting deaths of children under five years of age to determine their causes of death."

This refresher meeting takes place within the scope of the sub-agreement between CISM and SDSMAS for the implementation of CHAMPS activities.
